Welcome to the Peer Coaching Program! Peer Coaching was developed by the Center for Mental Health Care and Resources (CMHCR) to offer an innovative way to meet the needs of Georgia Tech students. Peer coaches are students who have been trained in active listening and other fundamental helping skills by professional staff at CMHCR. This program gives students the chance to get help from someone who really “gets it,” who understands what it’s like to be a student at Tech. Students often report that they benefit from having someone to talk to who is outside their immediate circle. Our coaches are here to meet with GT students for weekly one-on-one sessions to provide support, give space to express themselves and think through their challenges, and identify goals and work toward achieving them.
Is Peer Coaching Right For You?
Peer coaches are not trained counselors, but rather fellow students here to support you. Is coaching right for you? Consider how you are functioning: Are you generally doing fine and holding up well, but maybe there is one issue or area of your life in which you are looking to improve, grow, or develop better habits and skills? Or perhaps you could use someone to talk to and get support from? If so, you would likely benefit from coaching.
If you are experiencing significant anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns and are not able to function properly, whether it be in the classroom, at work, in your relationships or maybe all of the above, you might be best served by meeting with one of the CMHCR staff.
