Thank you for your interest in the Center for Mental Health Care & Resource's APA accredited training program. As an agency, we see our trainees as central to the vitality and quality of our organization, and we invite you to consider applying to be a post-doctoral fellow, doctoral intern, or practicum student in our center.
Our internship, in particular, is designed to provide training in functional skill areas relevant to work in a university counseling center including individual and group counseling, outreach and consultation, assessment and testing, and supervision of practicum counselors. In accordance with APA and IACS accreditation, we provide a diverse range of training opportunities in each of these functional areas, and work with trainees to enhance their training in areas of specific interest. At the core of our training program is a collaborative model which allows each intern to have intensive training from a direct supervisor as well as regular contact with all members of the clinical staff who have a wide range of training backgrounds, theoretical orientations, and social identities.
We hope our training program materials are useful and that you find them to be comprehensive. If you decide to apply for doctoral internship with us, please know that all of the required application materials are included in the APPI On-line, and no additional materials are required. While we follow all notification guidelines established by APPIC (Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers), feel free to contact Dr. Mack Bowers, Training Director, with questions or concerns regarding our training opportunities.
Doctoral Internship

The internship offers experience in providing direct services within a counseling center setting and among a culturally diverse campus population. Interns will provide individual, couples and group counseling to university students. Interns will receive two hours of individual supervision per week, and two hours of group supervision per week. They will participate in weekly training seminars that include rotations in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and other clinical issues. Interns also receive training in couples counseling, group counseling, and crisis intervention. Interns will also have the opportunity to co-facilitate outreach workshops with senior staff, and will be supported in developing their own outreach workshops.
Practicum Program
Applicants for the advanced practicum training program for pre-doctoral students in psychology and counseling must be enrolled in a doctoral program in counseling or psychology or related field.
