Creating a Culture of Support: Suicide Prevention in the Workplace

By developing a better understanding of suicide, self-harm behaviors, and associated risk factors, this session for Georgia Tech faculty and staff demystifies these challenging topics and explores ways to tackle taboos. Participants will learn about creating a culture of support, preventative strategies, how to access crisis management tools, and how to help someone in crisis.

Project Connect

Did you know that over half of college students report feeling lonely? Project Connect seeks to address the loneliness crisis by helping student create meaningful connections to their peers. Friending Pop-Up are kind of like speed dating, but without the dating or the speed. Participants meet in small groups for about an hour and use prompts to engage in guided conversations that move beyond small talk. Sessions are introvert-friendly and open to all students. If you are looking for an opportunity to grow your social circle, join us at Friending Pop-Up for a short-term Project Connect experience.

Learn more about mental health resources on campus, get connected to support, and enjoy free giveaways! If you are registered for the Hope in Motion 5K, you can also pick up your race packet at the tabling fair. 

Peek Behind the Beak

5 – 6 p.m.
John Lewis Student Center – Cypress Theater (1st floor)
Come meet Freddie Falcon, official mascot for the Atlanta Falcons! In this event, Freddie takes off the costume to speak about his experiences with suicide and mental health. Learn about his personal struggles, hear his message of hope, and learn from his advice. The Falcons will also be giving away swag and memorabilia signed by players at the end of the event!

Friday Sept. 12

Hope In Motion 5K

7 a.m.
Campus Recreation Center
Lace up your running shoes for the Hope in Motion 5K in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Week. This race is not just about the thrill of the finish line; it’s about supporting mental health and giving voice to those who are struggling with thoughts of suicide. The entire campus community is invited, and all experience levels are welcome! The cost is $15, and all participants will get a free T-shirt.
