Artistic Expression Therapy Group

Tuesday: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

This group will provide opportunities for participants to utilize artistic expression to develop creative problem-solving, emotional expression, and coping skills. Through weekly art prompts and using a range of mixed media, group members will create independent projects and collaborate on projects with others. This is a group for any level of artistic skill or interest.

Graduate Men's Group

Friday: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

This group provides Georgia Tech men (graduate students) the opportunity to discuss a range of topics in their lives. Common topics include dealing with the pressures and expectations related to being a man in our society, academic and career concerns, managing anger and other emotions, and communicating effectively in relationships.

Graduate Women's Group

Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

A group that allows Georgia Tech graduate student women to connect with others around personal, academic, and relationship issues.

Grief and Loss

Monday: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Contact: Mack Bowers

Grief is a normal human response to loss that can bring complicated emotions. It can be healing to share these feelings with people who are going through the same grief process. This group is for students who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Group members will be offered a safe space for expression, reflection, and exploration, as well as support for coping with the loss.

Journey in Healing

Friday: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM

This group is open to women-identified Georgia Tech students who are survivors of sexual assault or relationship violence during their teen/adult years. This group will offer support, psychoeducation, and collective empowerment. Weekly topics are chosen by the participants and relate to recovery, the reestablishment of safety, healing, coping, and self-care. The focus of the group is to provide safety, connection, education, support, and to model relationship building.

Mind Over Mood

Wednesday: 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM

This group will help participants better understand the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In addition, participants will be able to identify common problematic thought patterns and learn concepts and skills to modify the thought patterns that cause negative moods and anxiety.

Overcoming Social Anxiety

Tuesday: 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Overcoming Social Anxiety group provides you with a new way of understanding anxiety and gives you an opportunity to build social confidence in a structured and time-limited setting. Group members will develop specific techniques to improve the quality of their social interactions. Homework between sessions promotes new skills and independence.

RPG Therapy Group

Monday: 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Role-playing games (RPG) like Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), Pathfinder, and Quest allow participants to take on the persona of fictional characters and complete daring adventures across mysterious worlds. This therapy group takes core elements of these games and a creative, playful approach in order to challenge clients to set goals that will improve their behavior, attitude, and mindset in the real world.

Graduate Student Understanding Self and Others

These mixed-gender groups will provide opportunities for students to discuss issues and concerns that create stumbling blocks to success. These groups will examine relationships, communication styles, stress management, and general life concerns. In addition, there is a focus on the “process” or dynamic that plays out between group members, which allows members to provide and receive feedback, as well as process their reactions to other group members. There are a number of mixed-gender therapy groups that are offered at various times.

Women of Color Support Group

Thursday: 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

This group is open to GA Tech women of color. It is designed to provide a space where students can explore their identities, seek community, and find support in each other. The group seeks to create an open, supportive, and intentional space where students can safely process various themes and concerns through an intersectional and multicultural lens, with an emphasis on racial and ethnic identity. Themes and concerns to be explored may include race-related stress, macro/microaggressions, marginalization, racism, helplessness, and powerlessness, as well as resilience, belonging, and empowerment.
